Common questions

I just lost my job. What should I do first?

File for Georgia unemployment benefits right away, online or at a Labor Department career center. Benefits don’t go back to your last day of work. Then call the WorkSource center for your county for free job search help and, if you qualify, training money.

How can I get job training for free?

Your county’s WorkSource center can pay for training if you qualify. Goodwill has free training classes. Per Scholas has free tech training, and Year Up has tuition-free training for ages 18 to 29. No diploma yet? Start with free GED classes.

I have a record. Can I still get help finding work?

Yes. The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) gives people recently released from prison or jail paid short-term work, training and job help. Goodwill career centers also welcome people with records. For more options, call 211.
